Unfortunately, the scars of slavery, Jim Crow, today's discrimination are so deeply embedded in our psyche that we have internalized it and become our own worst enemies. But, as Oprah said, we have the chance to vote Dr. King's dream into reality. Obama's presidency is about more than just another election. It's a chance to begin healing these wounds, finally. I understand that we've been hurt before, and the need to manage our expectations. I understand that some who have succeeded in the past have done so my compromising their connections of other African Americans, and that is a reason to scrutinize success.
