Why are "we" the ones questioning Obama's electability?

Should Black people still be questioning whether Barack is electable? He has even gotten 660 Nevada Republicans to commit to caucusing for him. And by the way, if you are registered as a Republican and would like to support a democratic candidate at the caucuses, its not too late. The Democratic Party allows people to register to vote or to change party affiliation when they go to their caucus on January 19th.

Our skepticism--which passes as "realism"--is powerful and limiting. I understand that we've been hurt before, and the need to manage our expectations. I understand that some who have succeeded in the past have done so my compromising their connections of other African Americans, and that is a reason to scrutinize success. But with Barack, we should be beyond all of that. He has proven himself--he's our best shot.

I agree that a Black presidential candidate doesn't get any better than Barack. Unfortunately, the scars of slavery, Jim Crow, today's discrimination are so deeply embedded in our psyche that we have internalized it and become our own worst enemies. But, as Oprah said, we have the chance to vote Dr. King's dream into reality. Obama's presidency is about more than just another election. It's a chance to begin healing these wounds, finally. And, I'd say it's about time.
